Improve the Speed of Windows 7

Windows 7 is the latest variant of MicrosoftsOperating System but it does have its downsides. One of them is some users may find that itĀ is very slow once installed. One of the reasons for this could be that as the visual effects puts a largeĀ strain on your system resources i.e Graphics card and system memory (RAM).

This can be fixed by altering some options and turning off some of the visual effects and the following guide will help you to undertake this task.

To begin with click your Windows Start button and in the search box type “Performance”, in the list of results under the heading Control Panel select “Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows”

This will open a new window called “Performance Options” where you can change the settings for all your visual effects. As you can see all the options are mainly checked in the menu for my PC but this is due to the specification of my computer being able to fully handle all the visual effects that are enabled.

There are a couple of options in this menu where you can allow your computer to select what it feels is best for your computer, you can set it to turn on all the effects to make the desktop appearance be the best quality or you can set it to run at best performance.

As each computer is different it would be difficult to recommend what to enable but changing the options one by one in the first three selections will show you what performance or visual effects can be achieved and best suited for your computer.

The fourth option is the one where you can play around alot more. Select Custom and it will allow you to check and uncheck options all the way down the list and by adding or removing them you may find a good balance between performance and appearance.

Once you have made the selections click apply to see the changes you have made, it may not help everyone but it could enhance some peoples use of Windows 7.
